| Description : |
CSF2 is a cytokinethat functions as a white blood cell growth factor. CSF2 stimulates stemcells to produce granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils) andmonocytes. Monocytes exit the circulation and migrate into tissue, whereuponthey mature into macrophages. Thus, it is part of the immune/inflammatorycascade, by which activation of a small number of macrophages can rapidlylead to an increase in their numbers, a process crucial for fightinginfection. |
