Description : PCNA is a replication accessory factor and is also involved in DNA repair. During replication, PCNA acts as a processivity factor of DNA polymerases δ and ε. In DNA repair, PCNA is required for nucleotide excision repair, is involved in the long patch base excision repair, and is critical in error-free post replication repair, as well as translesion DNA synthesis. Loading of PCNA onto DNA may require RFC and RPA.

Ask a question
Can PCNA levels in tumor tissues provide prognostic information for cancer patients? 05/18/2021

Yes, elevated PCNA levels in tumor tissues are associated with a poorer prognosis in many cancer types.

Are there any genetic mutations associated with PCNA that impact clinical outcomes? 04/12/2021

Mutations in the PCNA gene can lead to DNA repair deficiencies and may be associated with increased cancer risk and poor clinical outcomes.

How is PCNA protein relevant in cancer diagnosis and treatment? 03/01/2020

PCNA is often overexpressed in cancer cells, making it a potential diagnostic marker and a target for cancer therapies.

Are there any PCNA-targeted therapies currently in clinical trials or use? 03/02/2018

Yes, some clinical trials are exploring drugs that target PCNA, primarily in the context of cancer treatment.

How is PCNA protein involved in DNA repair pathways, and how is this relevant to clinical applications 01/15/2016

PCNA acts as a scaffold for various DNA repair proteins, making it crucial for maintaining genomic stability and relevant in DNA repair-based therapies.
