Description: basic Fgf2 is foundin almost all tissues of mesodermal and neuroectodermal origin and also intumors derived from these tissues. Endothelial cells produce large amounts ofthis factor. Some Fgf2 is associated with the extracellular matrix of thesubendothelial cells. Many cells express Fgf2 only transiently and store itin a biologically inactive form. The mechanism by which the factor isreleased by the cells is not known. It is released after tissue injuries andduring inflammatory processes.

Molecular Weight: Native MouseFgf2 basic is generated by the proteolytic removal of the signal peptideand propeptide,the molecule has a calulated mass of 16 kDa.
Biological Activity: The ED(50) wasdetermined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3cells expressing Fgf2 receptors is ≤ 0.2 ng/ml, corresponding to a specificactivity of ≥ 1 x 106 units/mg.
Endotoxin: Endotoxin contentwas assayed using a LAL gel clot method. Endotoxin level was found to be lessthan 0.1 ng/µg(1EU/µg).
Reconstitution: A quick spin of thevial followed by reconstitution in distilled water to a concentration notless than 0.1 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other buffers.
Storage: The lyophilized protein is stable forat least 2 years from date of receipt at -20°C. Upon reconstitution, thiscytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2°C - 8°C for one month, or at-20°C for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss ofactivity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
