Description : | Gdf3 is a TGFβsuperfamily member belonging to the growth/differentiation factor family.Gdf3 is expressed in undifferentiated embryonic stem (ES) cells, adiposetissue and the brain. In ES cells, it maintains pluripotency and influencesearly cell fate decisions. For example, frog embryos injected with Gdf3develop a secondary dorsal axis and deletion of mouse Gdf3 can producedefects in the anterior visceral endoderm of the pregastrulation embryo. |

Q&As (5)
Ask a questionGDF3 signaling may crosstalk with Wnt, Notch, and other signaling pathways, modulating their activities and integrating them into a complex regulatory network during development.
GDF3 is implicated in organogenesis, influencing the development of various tissues and organs, including the heart, nervous system, and mesoderm-derived structures.
Post-translational modifications, such as glycosylation and phosphorylation, play roles in regulating GDF3 activity, influencing its stability, secretion, and interaction with receptors.
GDF3 activates the SMAD signaling pathway, influencing cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, especially during early embryonic development.
GDF3 is essential for germ cell development and contributes to the establishment of primordial germ cells, influencing fertility and reproductive success.
