Recombinant Human RAD51

Cat.No. : RAD51-134H
Product Overview : Rad51 protein was highly purified from E. coli over-expressing human Rad51 protein as a recombinant protein. Since the tag was removed from the recombinant protein (it still contains Gly-Ser-His at the N-terminal), it has been shown to retain nuclear filament forming and strand-exchange activity as well as interaction with Rad52. This product was confirmed to possess single strand DNA stimulated ATPase activity.

Description : Human Rad51 protein is a functional and structural homolog of E. coli RecA protein, which plays a major role in genetic recombination and recombination repair by mediating strand exchange reaction between homologous DNA strands. Rad51 functionally and physically interacts with its paralogs Dmc1, Rad51B, Rad51C, Rad51D, Xrcc2 and Xrcc3, and also with Rad52 in recombination processes. It also interacts with oncogene proteins and tumor suppressors such as BRCA1, BRCA2, and P53 for the maintenance of genome stability.

Ask a question
How does RAD51 contribute to the homologous recombination (HR) repair pathway? 10/24/2021

In the HR pathway, RAD51 forms nucleoprotein filaments on single-stranded DNA, allowing it to search for and invade a homologous DNA sequence, facilitating accurate DNA repair.

Are there any known interactions between RAD51 and BRCA proteins? 05/02/2021

Yes, RAD51 interacts with BRCA proteins, especially BRCA2. This interaction is crucial for the proper function of RAD51 in the HR pathway.

Are there any diseases or conditions associated with RAD51 dysregulation or mutations? 10/17/2020

While mutations in RAD51 are rare, dysregulation of its function can contribute to genomic instability. Some mutations in RAD51 have been linked to increased cancer susceptibility.

What is the primary function of RAD51 in DNA repair mechanisms? 05/27/2020

RAD51 plays a central role in the DNA repair mechanism, specifically in homologous recombination (HR), where it facilitates the search for homology and strand pairing.

How is RAD51 recruited to sites of DNA damage? 06/01/2018

RAD51 is recruited to sites of DNA damage through interactions with various mediator proteins, including BRCA2, which helps load RAD51 onto single-stranded DNA regions.

Can RAD51 activity be targeted therapeutically in cancer treatments? 06/01/2018

Yes, RAD51's activity can be targeted therapeutically. Inhibiting RAD51 can sensitize cancer cells to DNA-damaging agents, making it a potential target in combination cancer therapies, especially for tumors with defective DNA repair pathways.

How does RAD51's function compare to that of its paralogs, like RAD51B, RAD51C, etc.? 05/09/2018

RAD51 has several paralogs, including RAD51B, RAD51C, RAD51D, XRCC2, and XRCC3. While they all play roles in HR, each has distinct functions and interactions, with some acting as mediators or stabilizers of RAD51's nucleoprotein filament.
