Description : | This gene encodes a membrane-bound protein that is a member of the mucin family. Mucins are O-glycosylated proteins that play an essential role in forming protective mucous barriers on epithelial surfaces. These proteins also play a role in intracellular signaling. This protein is expressed on the apical surface of epithelial cells that line the mucosal surfaces of many different tissues including lung, breast stomach and pancreas. This protein is proteolytically cleaved into alpha and beta subunits that form a heterodimeric complex. The N-terminal alpha subunit functions in cell-adhesion and the C-terminal beta subunit is involved in cell signaling. Overexpression, aberrant intracellular localization, and changes in glycosylation of this protein have been associated with carcinomas. This gene is known to contain a highly polymorphic variable number tandem repeats (VNTR) domain. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011] |
Form : | Powder |
Bio-activity : | Measured by its ability to increase beta-catenin levels in the cytoplasm and nucleus of HCT116 human colon adenocarcinoma cells. 0.01-1 ng/mL of Recombinant Human MUC-1 can effectively increase beta-catenin levels. |
Endotoxin : | Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 EU/μg of the protein, as determined by the LAL test. |
Purity : | > 97% (by SDS-PAGE) |
Applications : | FuncSt, SDS-PAGE |
Notes : | For laboratory research only, not for drug, diagnostic or other use. |
Storage : | Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20°C or -80°C. After reconstitution, aliquot and store at -20°C for up to one month, at 2-8°C for up to one week. Storage in frost free freezers is not recommended. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Suggest spin the vial prior to opening. |
Storage Buffer : | PBS (pH 7.4) |
Reconstitution : | Reconstitute to a concentration of 0.1-0.5 mg/ml in sterile distilled water. |
