Description : | Fractalkine is a transmembrane protein and chemokine involved in the adhesion and migration of leukocytes. The protein encoded by this gene is a receptor for fractalkine. The encoded protein also is a coreceptor for HIV-1, and some variations in this gene lead to increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection and rapid progression to AIDS. Four transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010] |

Q&As (7)
Ask a questionThere are potential therapeutic implications related to CX3CR1 in immune-related disorders, making it a target of interest for drug development.
CX3CR1 contributes to the regulation of immune responses and cell migration by responding to its ligand, fractalkine (CX3CL1).
CX3CR1 is predominantly expressed in certain immune cells, including monocytes, macrophages, and certain subsets of T cells.
CX3CR1 plays a role in influencing the balance between immune tolerance and inflammation through its impact on immune cell function.
Dysregulation or abnormal expression of CX3CR1 is associated with conditions such as atherosclerosis, neuroinflammatory disorders, and certain cancers.
The ligand for CX3CR1, fractalkine (CX3CL1), is involved in immune modulation, influencing cell adhesion and migration.
C-X3-C motif chemokine receptor 1 (CX3CR1) primarily functions in the immune system, playing a role in immune responses and cell migration.
