  • Official Full Name
  • brain-derived neurotrophic factor
  • Background
  • The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the nerve growth factor family. It is induced by cortical neurons, and is necessary for survival of striatal neurons in the brain. Expression of this gene is reduced in both Alzheimers and Huntington disease patients. This gene may play a role in the regulation of stress response and in the biology of mood disorders. Multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

Protein Function

BDNF has several biochemical functions, for example, growth factor activity, neurotrophin TRKB receptor binding. Some of the functions are cooperated with other proteins, some of the functions could acted by BDNF itself. We selected most functions BDNF had, and list some proteins which have the same functions with BDNF. You can find most of the proteins on our site.

Interacting Protein

BDNF has direct interactions with proteins and molecules. Those interactions were detected by several methods such as yeast two hybrid, co-IP, pull-down and so on. We selected proteins and molecules interacted with BDNF here. Most of them are supplied by our site. Hope this information will be useful for your research of BDNF.
