• Description: Recent studies show a potential role for the serine protease PR3 in determining mortality and incidence of heart failure following AMI.PRTN3 is a serine protease enzyme expressed mainly in neutrophil granulocytes. In human neutrophils proteinase 3 contributes to the proteolytic generation of antimicrobial peptides. PR3 is also the epitope of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs) of the cANCA (cytoplasmic subtype) class, as the major autoantigen of c-ANCA and is strongly expressed in lung tissue of patients with Wegener"s granulomatosis.
